Dawn and dusk in a day, subtle changes in the expression of the sky and clouds: ……  (( language Japanese only)

Ono Chikkyo (1889-1979), a painter who sublimated moments in daily life that we might not even notice, into the mental landscape of the Japanese people, studied under Takeuchi Seiho at the age of 14. He studied Japanese-style painting under the tutelage of such prominent students as Hashimoto Sekisetsu, Uemura Shoen, and Tsuchida Bakusen. He also took an interest in Western art, and his interest in color led him to participate in the founding of the Society for the Creation of National Painting, where he challenged the innovation of Japanese painting. In the latter half of his life, he painted poetic Japanese landscapes as a central figure in the Kyoto art world, and was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit.
This book, with the full cooperation of the Chikkyo Museum in Kasaoka, presents a selection of 100 paintings and 50 drawings from his early to late years from a collection of over 1,700 works, together with an essay by Shiro Uezono, a leading scholar on Chikkyo, to convey his appeal and painting style.
The book includes a general introduction, 13 essays that present Chikkyo's painting from various perspectives, and commentaries on all the works.
This is a book that is both spectacular and highly readable.
